USM offers 1" grates. We have heard our competitors' have been selling 3/4" grates in place of 1" grates and telling customers that it is a "better deal". You need to be aware that a screen of "heavy production" machines will begin to deform and break when it wears to a thickness of 1/2" to 3/8". This means you would only get "half the wear life" out of this substituted 3/4" grate.
USM has designed and built our own automated equipment to apply our Tungsten Carbide weld to our parts. We use our computer controlled welders to maintain the consistency you can not achieve by hand. This unique process allows USM to place the Tungsten Carbide chips from the surface to the root of the weld creating a depth of penetration almost impossible to produce by hand. The deeper we can place the Tungsten Carbide chips the longer the wear surface of the part.
Tungsten Carbide alone is a very brittle substance which can shatter on impact. Our welding process allows the chips to be buried in a weld matrix which absorbs most of the shock and keeps the Tungsten Carbide from chips from shattering.
